50 years ago Tuesday...
On February 3, 1959, a small-plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa, killed three American rock and roll musicians: Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, as well as the pilot, Roger Peterson.
"A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, they?d be happy for a while."
"But february made me shiver
With every paper I?d deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn?t take one more step."
"I can?t remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died."
(Don McLean from American Pie)

Hi, bfish,
So sad, and American Pie touches me each time I hear it.
Still sweltering, here but got to revisit a few videos. Co-incidentally on of them was The STRAT Pack Live In Concert in which the remaining Crickets get a good airing. Except for a couple of younger artists who are probably included to broaden sales appeal, this is a great DVD. (Cheap at 1 Cent DVD on Ebay).
I never really knew about him until a few years ago, when the Gary Busye (sp?) movie was playing. I really got sucked into it. I do not know what the general critique of that movie is, but I was moved by it. I actually like his songs. That movie was done in 1978, about the Time the EVH Era started. A lot of Really cool artists have died on Planes.
I may be wrong!

This is a link for a young man from Des Moines IA that does an excellent job of performing Buddy Holly songs. I came across him when he was 13. His vocals and guitar work has continued to improve. He won a Buddy Holly lip sync contest at age 7.
